Smith & Co – Smith St

The scaffolding is coming down on “Smith & Co”, due to be completed late 2015.  Situated in the heart of the busy Smith Street Collingwood shopping strip, it will house 230 residential apartments, retail spaces and a new 4,500m2 Coles supermarket, on what was once the home of the original G.J Coles Department Store.  A series of contemporary facades with varying materials and compositions and revitalized heritage facades break down the scale of the site to complement the existing heritage streetscape. Attention is now focused on finishing the apartments and interior spaces, as well as the landscaping of three large themed courtyards – the Indigenous, European and Edible gardens. These gardens will capture and emphasise the community focus of this building.
