When presented with a long, narrow site adjoining a major train line JAM approached the challenge, buoyed by the potential that this central site offered. Located in the desirable inner east location of Hawthorn in immediate proximity to Swinburne University and the vibrant Glenferrie Road shopping strip the once neglected rail line easement now houses 100 apartments.
In deference to the surrounding streetscapes the extended horizontal form comprises of a series of cantilevered structures of different colours, materials and proportions that create a change of rhythm when observed at street level. Reading as a series of parts rather than one dominating building, dynamic forms and scaled objects add articulation to the façade.
The common area rooftop terrace capitalises on the panoramic views across the city skyline to the west and the historic Glenferrie Road Post Office tower to the east.
