The Noble Street residence occupies a corner allotment in suburban Newtown, Geelong. The site, whilst falling away to the rear, also has significant views to the North West, which presented a dilemma to the usual arrangement of locating the private open space to area furthest away from the street. The solution was to push the house back from the corner of the site and provide the private space closest to the street, utilising the natural fall and raising the garden/terrace level. Landscaping also assist in creating a private, green outlook from the house, with significant distant views through the valley.

The house is designed as a poetic commentary on modern architecture, utilising aseries of programmatic boxes resting on each other, all which are clad in complimentary, but different materials including stone tiles, render, timber and glazing. Visually, the upper level rendered “frame” is supported on its edges, with large full height glazing in between, housing the main living spaces. The main glazing to the North West is controlled with mechanically operable louvres which adjust through the day to allow views whilst managing the western evening sun.
