Smith & Co – Smith St

The scaffolding is coming down on “Smith & Co”, due to be completed late 2015.  Situated in the heart of the busy Smith Street Collingwood shopping strip, it will house 230 residential apartments, retail spaces and a new 4,500m2 Coles supermarket, on what was once the home of the original G.J Coles Department Store.  A series of contemporary facades with varying materials and compositions and revitalized heritage facades break down the scale of the site to complement the existing heritage streetscape. Attention is now focused on finishing the apartments and interior spaces, as well as the landscaping of three large themed courtyards – the Indigenous, European and Edible gardens. These gardens will capture and emphasise the community focus of this building.

Chapel Street, Richmond

Nearing practical completion, this former warehouse is now a four level side-by-side modern office space. Distinguishing old from new with the use of sleek black metal cladding, the existing warehouse shell remains in keeping with the surrounding neighbourhood. Upper levels of this design offer extensive views of the city skyline, and a functional, open plan work space.

Alexander Crescent, Point Lonsdale

Framing is now complete on this three level, five bedroom home in Point Lonsdale. Referencing the dense vegetation of the area with the use of timber cladding and a timber batten sunshading screen, this curved design focuses around a central courtyard, to offer privacy to those enjoying the natural surrounds.

Tram Road

This 38 apartment residential development is well under way, with the bulk of excavation complete. Bored piers and shot crete walls are shaping the beginnings of the basement carpark, which will support this sweeping design across a sloped site. This modern, green building will offer extensive views outwards towards the south west, over the city and surrounds.

Footscray Plaza

With the full height of the structure now evident, Footscray Plaza’s makeover is due to be completed by mid-2014. At ten storeys tall, the brightly articulated residential component of the building gives a fresh new look to what was once a dated, low rise shopping centre.
